Guide to Shaking Off the Winter Blues

The transition from the festivities of the Holidays back into the daily grind of our jobs and family can sometimes be difficult, especially around the winter season. When all the festive decor has been removed, you now have a blank canvas to work with, and this is about the perfect time to add some warm, bright hues to create an inviting atmosphere to get you out of your winter slump.

Here's a four step guide to shaking off the winter blues and getting back into a happy mood:

1. Sheer curtain panels make a great difference.

During the winter months the sun seems to be non-existent sometimes, so the best way to maximize on natural lighting is to have patterned, sheer curtain panels that'll let the maximum amount of light into your interior space.
2. Get your favorite mug. Drink tea. Lots of tea.
The fun memories of your favorite mug will get your happy-juices flowing, and drinking loads of tea will also help beat any slouchy feeling that you may have. My favorite tea company is Bigelow. They're pretty inexpensive and the teas taste delicious.
3. Let your creative juices flow. Make some art.
Last year, my sister and I took me to an art class at the Painting Lounge in Brooklyn New York. I literally didn't want to step foot out the house because of how cold it was outside, but once we got there, we had such a blast with everyone there and the teacher was so patient with everyone. It's a perfect way to forget that it's winter and make new friends!
4. Get a head-start. Begin Spring cleaning.
Clean up anything Holiday-related in your home and start preparing for Spring. The brighter your home feels, the happier you become. Find some of your favorite pieces around your home and try to blend them all together to make a clean, yet funky interior.
