PATTERN PLAY - SHOP NOW!

Each year, the design team at Positively Home gets together to create our Spring and Fall collections. After loads of brainstorming, pattern making and sample ordering, we pull through with our best work.

Last year, in 2017, we launched one of our best selling pillows - the Sketchy Brush Strokes Polka Dot Pillow. Customers love it because of it's simplicity, but also for the punch of colour that we added to the unusual sketchy design for each variation.

A couple days ago, someone asked the question...how much pattern is too much pattern?

After giving it a bit of thought, my first instinct (as a designer of all things patterned and wonderful) was to say, "THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS TOO MUCH PATTERN!" Then...I really gave it some thought and the real answer is....THERE'S NO SUCH THING AS TOO MUCH PATTERN!

I believe that a person's home must represent who they are and what they want to surround them. I love having Q&A sessions with my clients to pick their brains a bit on:
  • How they want to feel in the space?
  • What colours they prefer?
  • Do they spend a lot of time in the space?
  • Do you eat in the space?
All these questions lend a hand in how much pattern - and colour - we select for the space. But there are some ways you can make the process easier when selecting patterns and colour:
  1. Ensure the colours blend easily in the space
  2. Chose two bold patterns and two subtle patterns to work with
  3. Try to stick with patterns in the same family - think boxes with boxes, or circles with circles
  4. A pop of colour is always a great idea
