The 2010 earthquake in the caribbean island of Haiti left a lot of devastation in its aftermath. Even now, three years after, there are many people still left without homes and ways to make a living. In a positive light, many people around the world have pitched in to help where they can, and one such person is Donna Karan of the famous DKNY brand. She is the founder of the Urban Zen Foundation and they work together with Haitian artisans who create products to be sold by Urban Zen.
One of my favorite artisans from the Urban Zen collection is Karine Faubert Villard also known as "Cookie". She creates the Wrought Iron by Cookie collection which I'm absolutely obsessed with because of her skillful merging of crystals and wrought iron. Knowing that these pieces are made by a person who was affected by this devastating earthquake, but still manages to create amazing pieces really shows the strength of the Haitian people.
